Celebrity Male Makeup Roundup – 6 Famous Men Using Cosmetics

Posted: October 22, 2010 in Uncategorized

Let’s face it: celebrities are trendsetters for a reason. They have the platform – and courage – to pull off new styles the average Joe never could. Like J-Lo sunglasses. Jane Doe pulls a pair of vintage aviator glasses out of a pawn shop and wears them, she’s probably going to get some strange looks and “they just don’t fit your face well” comments from her friends. Jennifer Lopez designs a new line of bug-eyed sunglasses, and now they’re a summer essential. It seems that most of us need to be reassured by celebrity icons that it’s okay to take risks.

Lately, a lot of male celebrities are doing exactly that, but with cosmetics. To be sure, eccentric celebrities like Bob Dylan, David Bowie and Dave Navarro have been experimenting with new – and arguably strange – ways for men to get creative with makeup for years, but up until recently, these icons have been the exception rather than the rule. Now, more and more “normal” male celebrities have been getting cozy with the cosmetics counter for the purpose of refining and sharpening their look, not shocking their audiences.

We’ve rounded up mix of six male celebrities who have recently been seen donning makeup. A few of the celebs we’ve included might surprise you.

Pete Wentz – Fall Out Boy bassist has become an icon for punk fashion and is routinely seen sporting foundation, eyeliner and manscara, topped by a 5 o’clock shadow. His fans seem to love the image, and Wentz’s wife Ashlee Simpson doesn’t seem to mind.

John Travolta – Yeah, we were surprised too. While we’re really glad Travolta has discovered how to use concealer and foundation to smooth the years away, we’re hoping he discovers lip balm soon.

Adam Lambert – This entry comes as no surprise, as openly gay pop singer and American Idol celebrity has been grooming his carefully applied image for some time. Lambert recently defended his use of makeup to the Twitter community, saying “Read a comment recently: ‘eww men aren’t supposed to wear makeup!’ is there some rulebook somewhere I didn’t get a copy of? Ha!”. Fan or not, you have to admire Lambert’s unapologetic self confidence.

Zac Effron – The Disney channel and High School Musical star goes straight for the clean, strikingly handsome look with the help of foundation, bronzers and concealer. After all, what accessorizes with neon blue eyes better than clear skin?

Adam Levine – The Maroon 5 singer’s use of makeup oozes masculinity. Levine sets an example for men around the world on how to accessorize scruff with clear skin.

Robert Downey Jr – Downey’s always had the uncanny ability to look stunning in any kind of makeup, but we’re digging the new look. Judging from the enhanced-yet-casual look of Downey’s eyebrows and lips, we’re thinking Travolta could take some pointers.
